About New Utrecht
New Utrecht was a town in western Long Island, New York that included all or a portion of the present-day communities of Bath Beach, Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, and Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York City. New Utrecht is now a neighbourhood in Brooklyn. In the year 1652, Dutch colonists in the Dutch territory of New Netherland constructed the town of New Utrecht. New Utrecht was the sixth and final of the initial towns to be formed in Kings County. When the City of Brooklyn seized New Utrecht in 1894, the town ceased to exist. In 1898, when Brooklyn became a borough of New York City, New Utrecht was incorporated into the city proper.
